Prompt #100

Prompt- "Write for 10 minutes using 'I used to think...' as your starter.

I used to think that speaking meant everything. Those who speak well were the ones who made it in life. If you were shy, or stumbled over words, you weren’t going anywhere useful. That’s what I used to think.
I used to think that meaning something meant something.
Now I see that all those politicians and talk show hosts who are quick with words and charismatic beyond belief, all have writers. All they do is present what someone already perfected. When writers go on strike, things shut down, and when they come back, the words begin again to flow from the mouths of the famous. Like a model is to clothes, and a frame is to a masterpiece. Speakers are simply the vase to the flowers. They are the presenters of works already written.
I also see now that being behind the scenes is where the true glory lies, if the passion for the writing is present. To be truly successful is to do something that you love and do it honestly without stepping on others to get where you want to be. Money isn’t success. Clothes aren’t success. Being on TV and adored by millions isn’t success.
I used to think that only speakers were successful, but now I know that they need help and the success is not always long lasting. They are targets for the good and the bad, but the writers often bring the good. We make ourselves who we are, and being the best we can be is being truly successful.
